Joseph Walker an airman who served from 1964 to 1968 had passed away. The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas could not find any family to attend his burial.
They made sure he had a proper burial by stating over social media, that this veteran did not have any family and, “If you have the opportunity, please come out and attend, We do NOT leave Veterans behind.”
The post quickly went viral. Even Texas Sen. Ted Cruz got in the action by tweeting and asking others to attend.
When Joseph Walker’s funeral started almost 2,000 strangers had shown up to pay their respects. There were a line of cars for miles waiting to attend.
The tweets and news coverage of Walker’s funeral was also able to reunite his family as his daughter Karina Erickson, was able to attend. Erickson was presented with the folded flag that laid on her father’s casket.
He was able to be buried with full military honors.
