An Australian court convicted a man of plotting to blow up a flight for the Islamic State. The man tried to use to bomb put inside a meat grinder. Khaled Khayat, 51 and his brother Mahmoud Khayat, 34, were planning on bringing down an Etihad flight that would have been carrying 400 passengers. They were planning on hiding military grade explosives in another brother’s luggage.
The plot was ruined however when the third brother tried to check in the luggage but found that it was too heavy. Because it was found to be too heavy the bomb never made it past security. The flight safely landed, and the brothers were arrested weeks later.
Khaled Khayat and his brother were also planning a chemical gas attack in Sydney. He faces possible life in prison.
