As Patriots of the Lord previously reported, RV company Camping World was being taken to court over flying their iconic giant American flag.
The city of Statesville filed a lawsuit against Camping World that demanded they take down their 40 x 80-foot flag because the city has a sizing limit on flags of 25 feet by 40 feet.
CEO of Camping World, parent company of Gander RV, Marcus Lemonis stated that he would go to jail before ever taking down the flag. The company was hit with a $50-a-day fine which reached over $10,000.
When Gander applied for a permit, they applied for a 40-foot-by-25-foot flag but then put up a larger flag which has become an icon for the company as people drive all over just to see the flag in person.
“I don’t think there should be any ordinance of any kind regulating the size of the American flag,” said Lemonis.
The city seemed to change their mind after being torn up on social media by supports of Camping Worlds big flag.
Costi Kutteh the Mayor of Statesville, is recommending that the city amende the ordinance which would only need two votes to pass. The vote will happen on July 15th by the city council.
“In speaking with city council members, I believe this is the direction the majority of council would like to go at this time. Some terrible things have been said about our wonderful town and it hasn’t come from our citizens. But people from all over the country have jumped on this issue and called us names I can’t repeat. When our community’s efforts to conduct business in an orderly, lawful manner begins to hurt our businesses, then it’s time to put a stop to it.” Kutteh stated.
