Chick-fil-A donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and other various left-wing organizations. These organizations support and endorse abortion and LGBT rights. This is entirely contrary action to the fast-food chain’s front of being a conservative Christian company.
Public tax documents confirm that Chick-fil-A donated $2,500 to the Southern Poverty Law Center, even though it has a long history of being hateful and degrading of conservative efforts.
The SPLC is well-known for engaging in controversial practices such as labeling conservative and Christian organizations around the United States as “hate groups.” Any group that is in opposition to left-leaning causes such as abortion or same-sex marriage are subject to public smearing by the SPLC.
“Anyone who opposes the SPLC, including many Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and traditional conservatives, is slandered and slapped with the ‘extremist’ label or even worse, their ‘hate group’ designation,” Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said in a statement.
In 2012, a gunman attacked the Family Research Council’s Washington headquarters, where he carried Chick-fil-A sandwiches on him according to police. He openly admitted that he viciously targeted the Research Council after he saw it on SPLC’s “hate map,” which showed the locations of groups that go against their worldly agenda.
Chick-fil-A had come under staggering scrutiny recently from some conservatives and Christians when they announced that it ended donations to conservative charities. These charities that Chick-fil-A no longer financially supports, such as the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, have been significantly criticized by LGBT activists.
The Salvation Army stated that it was saddened by the decision and said that out of the 23 million individuals each year that they serve, they are perhaps the most substantial poverty relief to the LGBTQ population. They also stated that they serve all people in need and do not discriminate against anyone.
With 2,400 restaurants, Chick-fil-A has been attacked and protests by LGBT activists. This has impeded its revenue to an extent. Earlier this year, protesters targeted the fast-food chain’s locations in airports across the country, which caused them to close or not be opened. There have also been chains at college campuses that have been banned due to protesting. Students have walked out of classes due to Chick-fil-A food trucks being present at home football games. The reason being for this protest is that they claim the company donated to anti-LGBTQ charities.
So instead of standing firm in their beliefs, it seems that Chick-fil-A decided to cave to the left-wing mob and cater to the world.
Christians and conservatives have continuously stuck up for Chick-fil-A and have been strong advocates from the company. The fast-food chain’s recent actions have had many of their once strong supporters feeling betrayed.
One of the company’s most prominent supporters was Mike Huckabee. He has repeatedly stood up for them and even coordinated a national Chick-fil-A appreciation day. However, due to their recent decisions, Huckabee stated he regretted that he had faith in them standing true to their convictions.
Maybe the most ironic part in all this is that while Chick-fil-A probably made their controversial decisions to make more money and gain more support from liberals, the opposite has happened. The LGBT community and others have come out and stated that they will still not support or eat at the organization.
“Chick-fil-A still lacks policies to ensure safe workplaces for LGBTQ employees and should unequivocally speak out against the anti-LGBTQ reputation that their brand represents,” Drew Anderson, GLAAD’s director of campaigns and rapid response, said.
Beyond this, some of those who supported the chicken chain against waves of criticism, have now boycotted the company themselves.
The SPLC was not the only leftist organization that Chick-fil-A has donated to in the past. They’ve given money to YWCA USA, which was once a proclaimed Christian group that became an abortion right and pro-LGBT organization that has aligned themselves with Planned Parenthood. They’ve given to Pace Center for Girls, which is an education group that had well-known feminist and abortion-rights activist Gloria Steinem as the keynote speaker at its most recent summit. Another disturbing donation from Chick-fil-A was given to Chris 180, which is a children’s health and mental wellness group that is very pro-LGBT.
Forty-nine top conservative leaders have sent a letter to Chick-fil-A urging the fast-food chicken chain to reconsider its decision to halt financial support to the Salvation Army. The leaders expressed their distaste in defaming the mission that the Salvation Army represents being not only one of the oldest but also most accomplished charitable organizations in the United States.
Conservative leaders also called out Chick-fil-A’s possible hypocrisy by claiming in their mission statement that their goal is to ‘To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A.’
The leader pointed out that by caving to the leftist mob, the fast-food chain has allowed the faithful steward that is the Salvation Army to be unjustly labeled as extremists. They also commented on how American families stood by the chicken distributor and urged others to do the same.
Chick-fil-A’s reasoning for halting donations to specific organizations is because they want to focus on education, homelessness, and hunger. But by cutting ties with the Salvation Army, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Paul Anderson Youth Home, they are stopping donations to organizations that focus entirely on helping with education, homelessness, and hunger.
Chick-fil-A has every right to decide how they want to donate its money, just like people have the right to determine whether or not they want to eat there. For me, any so-called “Christian” company that willfully donates to the SPLC and other Christian targeting organizations will not receive my business. It was nice having a restaurant with values that seem to coincide with conservativism. While I respect their right to decide what to do with their money freely, I am not going to support the blatant caving to political correctness.
You cannot appease the mob. I think Chick-fil-A is going to learn that lesson very quickly.
