As innocent churchgoers attended Easter Mass, they rocked by a series of explosions.
Around 8:45 a.m., eight bombing attacks occurred at three churches and three five-star hotels that are typically filled with foreigners. The blast killed about 200 people in a coordinated attack. Although a police official stated that 207 people had been killed and 450 wounded, 27 of them being foreigners. To prevent misinformation from being spread and to avoid panic and confusion the Sri Lanka government blocked social media and messaging services such as Facebook and Whatsapp.
According to, N.A. Sumanapala a shopkeeper who was near the church, “It was a river of blood…Ash was falling like snow…I saw limbs and heads. There were children too.”
