Trump Administration Clamps Down on People Who Harbor or Help Illegal Immigrants

There were 4,532 people who have been charged with harboring or bringing in illegal immigration in 2018. It is a 30% jump from 2015.

Most of the arrests have been after Attorney General Jeff Session’s order to prioritize enforcement of the harboring statute. The harboring statute states that it is a crime to help bring a foreign national into the U.S. outside of a legal port of entry.

“To those who wish to challenge the Trump Administration’s commitment to public safety, national security, and the rule of law, I warn you: illegally entering this country will not be rewarded but will instead be met with the full prosecutorial powers of the Department of Justice,” Sessions said when he called for attorneys to prosecute all illegal migrants caught crossing the border.
