Trump States He No Longer Wants to Protect China In Oil Rich Waters

China got a stern threat from President Donald Trump in which he tweeted that the country may have to protect their own interests in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump tweeted, “So why are we protecting the shipping lanes for other countries (many years) for zero compensation. All of these countries should be protecting their own ships on what has always been a dangerous journey.

Trump understands that China and other countries rely on safe travels through the strait for most of their oil. China especially, as they receive 91% of their oil from the strait. Reuters explains that “Any blockage of the strait would have serious consequences for its economy.”

The reason the United States has worked hard to keep the area safe for all countries to use it is because the oil that flows through the strait averaged about 21 million barrels per day, which is almost 21% of the consumption of the global liquid.

But America has become a “new oil exporter…breaking almost 75 years of continued dependence on foreign oil,” according to Bloomberg.

It is estimated that America will be able to achieve energy independence by 2020.
