72-year old U.S. Airforce veteran William Shuttleworth of Newburyport Mass., is on a mission to make sure Americans do not forget about the needs combat veterans require.
William Shuttleworth is embarking on a six-month walking adventure across the country with the message and hope that “Vets Don’t Forget Vets.”. He left from Haverhill Mass. and plans on ending the trip in California, which is 3,000 miles away.
“I will average about 25-30 [miles] per day, which is like walking a marathon a day. I will probably average 500 miles a pair of shoes so I’ll probably go through six or seven pairs.” He said.
William Shuttleworth plans on stopping and visiting veterans across America just to learn their story and journey.
“I’m particularly concerned about the number of homeless, veterans that have mental health issues and the number of veterans that everyday struggle with opioid and alcohol issues. I consider it a privilege and an honor, lucky enough to be healthy to do this.” William Shuttleworth said.
