Former U.S. Army Staff Sgt. David Bellavia has been made an honorary citizen of Disneyland.

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. David Bellavia was presented with the honor during Disneyland’s daily flag retreat ceremony. Disney Ambassador Rafa Barron was the one who presented Bellavia with a certificate that dubbed him “Honorary Citizen of the Disneyland Resort.”

David Bellavia is the very first Iraq war veteran to be given the honor.

David Bellavia is also the first living Iraq war veteran to be award with the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during the Second Battle of Fallujah in 2004. During the battle, Bellavia saved his platoon by taking down insurgents inside a home. He also had to utilize hand-to-hand combat as he could not fire his weapon because he was in a room with propane tanks inside.
