Now just for the record, I’m not for censorship. I’m a free speech advocate through and through, and I honestly feel some of the struggles of the right have come from the puritanical standpoint of censorship. The newer outlook on censorship from the more modern and Libertarian right-wing is a massive reason for Trump’s success and underground popularity. People are sick and tired of getting told what they can and can’t say, and Trump is the president who, finally, says what he thinks.
That being said, hate hypocrisy almost as much as censorship. So the sheer level of Seth Rogan’s dishonesty about the, very liberal, Hollywood machine “canceling” his movie “The Hunt” is beyond outrageous.
Another full disclosure; I find Seth Rogan funny and have enjoyed many of his movies. I probably would have seen “The Hunt,” but his reactions to its cancelation are probably the most entertaining thing that will come from this movie. To give you some background, “The Hunt” was a film in which liberals were killing Trump supporters for “sport.” That’s right; You read that correctly. A movie in which liberals (presumably Antifa) hunt Trump supporters and kill them as a game.
Reacting to the cancellation of the film, Seth Rogan said, “sucks when an evil world leader gets your movie canceled.” Now to get a few things straight: The movie is not “canceled.” Universal state that due to the two mass shootings which have recently taken place it “now is not the right moment to release this film.” Secondly, there is no way to connect or imply that Trump or any “evil world leader” had anything to do with the film not being released currently.
Trump did tweet regarding the movie saying, “Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate!”…”The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their violence, and then try to blame others.” But Trump tweets a lot of things and when has the left EVER listened to him (especially Hollywood.) No Seth, this has nothing to do with Trump, this has to do with a radical movie being held from release due to extenuating circumstances in the country.
Now just to put this in perspective, imagine if a movie was made as to the reverse. Imagine if it was Trump supporters killing Bernie Sanders supporters for fun. The outrage would be so palpable by the social justice warriors that it could be heard from San Francisco to Brooklyn. Even thinking about making a film such as that is probably a crime in Vermont.
Now onto the hypocrisy. Maybe Seth Rogan is just a free speech guy like me. Perhaps he thinks that everything should be heard. Maybe he’d be ok with such a movie made. But back in 2015, Mr. Rogan certainly didn’t sound that way. In regards to the 2015 Clint Eastwood directed film “American Sniper” about famed Iraqi war veteran Chris Kyle, Rogan was found comparing the movie to a form of “Nazi Propaganda.”
Really Seth? Enough is enough Hollywood. Make the films you want, but don’t get upset if we don’t want to see them. Typical Hollywood idealism; You can say and do whatever you want in the name of art (except if what you say or do in the name of art isn’t what I think.) No thanks Seth, we’ll skip this one (if it ever comes out.)
